During a suspension, your child has the right to receive instruction similar to what they would get in a regular classroom and to participate with peers as appropriate. They should be informed of the reasons for the suspension and given a chance to respond before it takes effect. After 10 days of in-school suspension, you, your child, and the principal should have a meeting. If the suspension process is delayed, your child can return to school unless there is a serious threat. If your child is not allowed back after the 10th day, you should be notified with reasons. If an extended suspension or expulsion is considered, you can appeal to the local board within 10 days. If your child has a disability, disciplinary actions must comply with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
