Maryland School Discipline Laws Regarding Final Exam Suspensions
Question:
What happens if my child is suspended during final exams?
Answer:
If your child is suspended during final exams in Maryland, the school must inform your child of the reasons for the suspension before it takes effect. The principal must also provide you with written notification of the in-school suspension. After 10 days of cumulative in-school suspension, you, your child, and the principal will have a conference. If the suspension process is not completed within 10 days, your child may be allowed to return to school unless there is a serious threat. If your child is not allowed to return after the 10th day, you will be notified with reasons for the delay. If an extended suspension or expulsion is considered, you have the right to appeal to the local board within 10 days.
