Question:

What’s the process for a behavior intervention plan (BIP)?

Answer:

To implement a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) for your child in Maryland schools, the plan should be individualized based on an assessment of your child’s behavior. The BIP should include positive interventions, strategies, and supports to address challenging behavior. It is important that the BIP is regularly reviewed and updated if your child continues to have behavioral difficulties. If your child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) or behavior intervention plan does not address the use of restraint or seclusion, the IEP team must meet within 10 business days to consider the need for an FBA and BIP.
