Maryland School Discipline Laws: Suspension Without Hearing
Question:
Why did my child get suspended without a hearing?
Answer:
In Maryland, if a principal finds that a suspension of more than 10 school days or expulsion is warranted, they must report the matter in writing to the county superintendent. The superintendent or their representative will then investigate the matter thoroughly. After the investigation, if a longer suspension or expulsion is deemed necessary, the student or the student’s parents or guardian may appeal to the local board within 10 days after the determination.
