Answer:

An extended suspension in Maryland is when a student is excluded from school for a period between 11 and 45 school days. It can only happen if the principal recommends it and the superintendent or their designee determines that the student poses a serious threat of harm to others or has caused severe disruptions to the learning environment that other interventions couldn’t fix. The student must stay away from school during this time and can’t participate in school activities. If the student is not allowed to return after the 10th day, the superintendent must notify the student and parent within 24 hours with reasons for the decision.
