Question:

What happens when my kid gets suspended?

Answer:

If your child is suspended from school in Maryland, they should be informed of the reasons for the suspension and given a chance to respond before it takes effect. The school principal must provide you with written notification of the in-school suspension. After 10 days of in-school suspension, you, your child, and the principal will have a meeting. If the suspension is for more than 10 days or expulsion is being considered, the principal will report the matter to the county superintendent who will investigate. If your child is not allowed to return to school after the 10th day, you should be notified within 24 hours with reasons for the delay. If there is an appeal, it must be filed within 10 days after the determination, and the local board will handle it.
