Maryland School Discipline Laws: IEP and Suspension
Question:
What happens if my child is suspended and has an IEP?
Answer:
If your child with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) in Maryland is suspended from school, the IEP or Section 504 team must meet if the suspensions add up to more than 10 days in a school year to determine if it’s a ‘change in placement.’ After 10 cumulative days of suspension, your child is entitled to services on the 11th day to ensure they can still access education and work towards their IEP goals.
