Question:

How does a school decide to use seclusion?

Answer:

Maryland schools can use seclusion for a student if it is appropriate for the student’s developmental level and the severity of their behavior. School personnel must be trained in using seclusion properly. Before using seclusion, school staff must try less intrusive interventions first and obtain written consent from the parent. Seclusion cannot last longer than 30 minutes and must be documented each time it is used.
