Maryland School Discipline Laws: Fighting, Expulsion, and Firearms
Question:
Why is my child being expelled for fighting?
Answer:
If your child is suspended or expelled for fighting at school in Maryland, the school must promptly contact you as the parent or guardian. The school can deny attendance to a student who is currently expelled from another school system for a length of time equal to that expulsion. If your child brings a firearm to school or a school activity, they may face suspension or expulsion following the procedures outlined in the Education Article, § 7-305, Annotated Code of Maryland, and COMAR 13A.08.03.
