Question:

How can I support my child during a long-term suspension?

Answer:

According to Maryland school law, if your child is on a long-term suspension, they should receive instruction similar to what they would get in a regular classroom. The school must inform you in writing about the in-school suspension, and after 10 days of in-school suspension, you, your child, and the principal should have a meeting. If the suspension continues beyond 10 days, the superintendent must notify you and provide reasons. If an extended suspension or expulsion is recommended, you can appeal within 10 days. The school must provide intervention and support for your child’s behavior during the suspension.
