Maryland School Law on Child Dismissal
Question:
What happens if my child is sent home without a formal suspension?
Answer:
If your child is dismissed from school without a formal suspension according to Maryland school law, the school principal should contact you promptly to discuss the situation. Your child should still receive educational support during any in-school suspension. If the dismissal lasts longer than 10 days, the superintendent must investigate and provide reasons for the extended dismissal. If your child has a disability, the discipline process must comply with federal laws protecting students with disabilities.
